Off piste, whole mountain skiing in the Monterosa with John Arnold.

Have you ever thought about going off the side – from piste to powder?

John Arnold specialises in and is internationally qualified, to lead and coach in off piste all mountain skiing with all levels of skier. If you can ski red runs, perhaps manage black and ski parallel and have an adventurer spirit then you will enjoy what he can offer. One day or more of exploring the mountains of the Monterosa. There are three different types of daily sessions.

1.      Piste to Powder – An introduction to skiing ungroomed slopes near to the piste. You will absorb the learning of techniques to enable you to participate in early off piste experiences. Intermediate skiers who can ski reds competently and have good balance and basic skiing skills will suit this day. You will desire to try out skiing of the side of the piste and improve your skiing in this environment.

2.      Journeying the Monterosa – Skiing through the Monterosa taking in the valleys and peaks of Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagne and everything in between. Leading you on piste and where your ability allows, off piste, whilst developing your technique and attitude which supports enjoyable, safe skiing. You will ski reds competently, have a desire to try smooth black pisted runs and have an eye for some easy off piste.

3.      All Mountain Experience – for the adventures amongst you, these days will be spent off piste across the Monterosa improving performance and learning about skills, technique, tactics and mind sets which opens up the whole mountain to you. You will ski black runs and enjoy off piste, skiing slopes which are exciting and enjoyable.

Routes will be set according to your ability levels, weather and snow conditions to ensure a safe and enjoyable skiing day, which starts at 9am at the base of Crest gondola and ends there at 5.30pm.

Off piste mountain safety equipment is required and can be hired from Tako Ski Rental which is close to the Gondola base station.  A rucksack is required along with a transceiver, probe and shovel. It is also useful to pack a spare fleece, second gloves, hat, water and snack.

Booking John costs 300 euros per day for 1 to 3 skiers and 400 euros for 4 to 6 people, for each of the three types of day. If you are an individual skier then it is possible to join others of similar ability level and the daily cost will be equally divided amongst the number of persons in the group. Maximum number in the group is 6 people.
